School-owned Instruments for the Summer

For those of you who are interested in obtaining a school-owned instrument over the summer, we have very few available at this time.  Most of the instruments have been sent to the repair shop for cleaning and basic maintenance, and they will not be returned to East Cobb until early August.  If you have already turned in a summer instrument form (green), Ms. Pezold will be contacting you within the next week about the status of your request.

What a great year of music-making here at East Cobb!  Thank you to students and parents for all of their hard work and dedication towards a successful year.  Have a wonderful summer and remember to practice your instrument every once in a while!

Jazz Band

The Jazz Band will NOT be performing on Tuesday, May 15th in the morning for the Leadership Academy event.  There were just too few students who were able to turn in a permission form.  I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause for families. 

As a reminder, there will NOT be rehearsal on Tuesday, May 15th.  Rehearsals are over for the year. 

The Jazz Band WILL be performing on Thursday, May 17th at the 7th/8th Grade Band Concert, and the students need to wear their blue band shirt or black jazz shirt, khaki pants, and dark footwear.  Report time is 6:30 p.m. -- 7th grade to the Band Room and 8th grade to the Chorus Room.

Summer Band Camp Info

Both Ms. Pezold and Dr. Strauss would love for students to take advantage of the many opportunities to continue their wonderful music-making over the summer.  There is a Cobb County Summer Camp being held at McEachern High School, plus there are many 'sleep-away' camps.  Download the attached file to get more information.  Download Summer Music Camps

7th and 8th Grade Band Concert

The 7th and 8th Grade Bands will present their Spring Concert on Thursday, May 17th at 7 p.m. in the Gym.  The students have been working very hard on new music since LGPE and we are looking forward to a great night of music-making!

Attire is blue band shirt, khaki PANTS, and dark footwear.  If students do not have a blue band shirt, please have them wear a navy blue shirt (with no writing).

6th Grade Night of the Arts!

On Thursday, May 10th from 6-8 p.m., East Cobb Middle School will host its first Night of the Arts Event featuring the 6th graders in the Fine Arts' programs.  There will be an art exhibit, face-painting, and both the 6th Grade Band and 6th Grade Orchestra will perform.  Orchestra performs at 6:45 p.m. and Band performs at 7:00 p.m. -- both performances will be in the gym.  All students at ECMS received a flyer about the event on Monday, May 7th.

All 6th grade band students received a reminder letter on Monday, May 7th with band-specific details, and the letter is available to download here.  Download 2012 6th Grade Night of the Arts Reminder.  The students need to wear their blue band shirt, khaki pants, and dark footwear, and they need to report to the band room by 6:30 p.m. (a few minutes earlier would be great!). 

 

Jazz Band...continues!

The ECMS Jazz Band schedule has been modified, and here's hoping everyone is able to adjust their family schedule to accommodate the changes. 

We have been asked to perform for the Principals' Meeting on Tuesday, May 15th, so we need to extend our rehearsal schedule for a few weeks. 

• Tuesday, May 1st        Short rehearsal followed by a pizza party celebration (end time 5:45)
• Tuesday, May 8th        Rehearsal (4:30-5:15)
• Tuesday, May 15th      Performance for the Principal's Meeting (during the school day); no rehearsal after school that day
• Thursday, May 17th    Performance at the 7th & 8th Grade Band Concert, 7 p.m., Gym

Congratulations to the ECMS Jazz Band!

Congratulations to all members of the ECMS Jazz Band for their outstanding performance on Tuesday, April 24th at the 4th Annual Sweets 'N Swing Concert!  The cafeteria was packed with people, the food and drink flowed freely, and everyone seemed to have a great time.  A special thank you to all of the parents who helped out in so many ways, from organizing the event, donating food/drink/paper items, helping with setup and cleanup, helping serve throughout the concert, to taking photographs.  This kind of event is always a team effort, and the East Cobb Band parents always give 200% to make sure everything is perfect!

7th Grade LGPE Makeup Grades

Any 7th grader who was not able to participate in the Large Group Performance Evaluation on Tuesday, March 27th at Kell High School needs to make an appointment with either Ms. Pezold or Dr. Strauss in order to play their music for a grade.  This makeup grade needs to be taken care of before Tuesday, May 15th. 

8th Grade Band Trip to Tennessee!

The 8th Grade Band is preparing to participate in the Music in the Parks Festival in Tennessee on Saturday, May 5th (this weekend!!).  All students were given a bright yellow permission slip on Monday, April 16th and this form needs to be signed and returned asap.  The permission form is available here to download, plus you can also find the itinerary here as well.  We are looking forward to a great trip!  Download Dollywood Itinerary 2012, Download Form IFCB-4 One Day Field Trip Form Blog

A reminder list was handed out to the students on Monday, April 30th and is on a bright orange, half-sheet of paper.  It details specifics for what time to report, what to wear, what to bring, etc.  Download Bullet List 2012 Blog
