Jazz Band

The Jazz Band will NOT be performing on Tuesday, May 15th in the morning for the Leadership Academy event.  There were just too few students who were able to turn in a permission form.  I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause for families. 

As a reminder, there will NOT be rehearsal on Tuesday, May 15th.  Rehearsals are over for the year. 

The Jazz Band WILL be performing on Thursday, May 17th at the 7th/8th Grade Band Concert, and the students need to wear their blue band shirt or black jazz shirt, khaki pants, and dark footwear.  Report time is 6:30 p.m. -- 7th grade to the Band Room and 8th grade to the Chorus Room.

Jazz Band...continues!

The ECMS Jazz Band schedule has been modified, and here's hoping everyone is able to adjust their family schedule to accommodate the changes. 

We have been asked to perform for the Principals' Meeting on Tuesday, May 15th, so we need to extend our rehearsal schedule for a few weeks. 

• Tuesday, May 1st        Short rehearsal followed by a pizza party celebration (end time 5:45)
• Tuesday, May 8th        Rehearsal (4:30-5:15)
• Tuesday, May 15th      Performance for the Principal's Meeting (during the school day); no rehearsal after school that day
• Thursday, May 17th    Performance at the 7th & 8th Grade Band Concert, 7 p.m., Gym

Congratulations to all members of the ECMS Jazz Band for their outstanding performance on Tuesday, April 24th at the 4th Annual Sweets 'N Swing Concert!  The cafeteria was packed with people, the food and drink flowed freely, and everyone seemed to have a great time.  A special thank you to all of the parents who helped out in so many ways, from organizing the event, donating food/drink/paper items, helping with setup and cleanup, helping serve throughout the concert, to taking photographs.  This kind of event is always a team effort, and the East Cobb Band parents always give 200% to make sure everything is perfect!

Sweets 'N Swing Jazz Concert!

The 4th Annual Sweets 'N Swing Jazz Concert is here!  The event will take place on Tuesday, April 24th at 7 p.m. in the ECMS Cafeteria.  Both the ECMS Jazz Ensemble and the Wheeler High School Jazz Ensemble will perform, plus there will be refreshments available during the concert.  Please come out and support our wonderful, young jazz musicians as they take the stage on Tuesday night!

Jazz Band Rehearsal Tuesday, April 10...

Jazz Band rehearsals resume on Tuesday, April 10 -- Mr. Hoskins from Wheeler will be here to rehearse the band while Ms. Pezold is still out on medical leave.  Sweets 'n Swing, our collaboration concert with Wheeler, is only 2 weeks away, so it is VERY important that all students attend this rehearsal. 

Jazz Summer Camp!!

Julliard is a name synonymous with outstanding performing arts education, and this summer, The Julliard  School will bring its Jazz Summer Workshop back to Atlanta. This one-week program will be held June 18-22, 2012, at North Atlanta High School Center for the Arts. Workshop classes are taught by Julliard faculty and students and include combo work, individual practice and jam sessions.

Applicants should be passionate about jazz and play one of the following instruments: trumpet, saxophone, trombone, guitar, piano, double bass, electric bass or drums.

Application deadline is May 2.

Jazz Band Shirts!!!

We have a few extra jazz band shirts for purchase if anyone did not order one yet.  The students wore them at their International Night performance and they looked great!  Our Sweets 'N Swing performance is fast-approaching, so please email Ms. Pezold asap if you are interested.  They are $9.00 each and money must be put into a school envelope and dropped into the safe next to the Media Center.  An order form is available here to download.Download 1112 Shirt Order Form Jazz Band

Annual Sweets 'N Swing Jazz Concert Coming Soon!

The annual Sweets 'N Swing Jazz Concert will take place in the ECMS cafeteria on Tuesday, April 24th at 7 p.m. and will feature both the ECMS & Wheeler Jazz Ensenbles.  Please mark your calendars for this fabulous event and plan to bring the entire family, extended family, and friends -- all are welcome!!!!!  This event is free and open to the public, and there will be refreshments served throughout the concert. 

International Night Success!

Congratulations to members of the ECMS Jazz Band and the newly-formed Saxophone Quartet for their outstanding performances at International Night on Thursday, February 23rd.  All of their hard work paid off for a night of great music-making!
